Jonas Colting – day 1 Ultraman
Jonas Colting charged into the lead at the 2011 Ultraman World Championships and in this video Jonas talks about his 10k swim and 90 mile bike segment on the first day of this 3 day event. He swam 2:20:33 and biked 4:55:27 for a total time of 7:15:50 and now has around a 30 minute lead over Michael Coughlin from Canada.
"I had a great day even though I feel dead tired right now! Regardless of how good of a day you here this first stage is going to beat you up," said Colting.
Jonas Colting has won the Ultraman World Championships in 2004 and 2007 and finished and finished second in 2010 despite being ill. Colting set the swim record time of 2:14:43 in 2004 and has the second best total time overall – 21:41:49.
2011 Ultraman World Championship schedule
Stage I:
6.2 mile (10 km) of open water swim followed by a 90 mile (145 km) cross-country bike ride from Keauhou Bay around the southern tip of the island to finish at Namakani Paio Park in the Volcanoes National Park. Vertical climbing totals 7600 feet (2316 meters).
Stage II
171.4 mile (276 km) bike ride from Volcanoes National Park to Keaau, and then turning east with a counter-clockwise loop through Kalapana, Kapoho and Pahoa and through the city of Hilo. The route continues north along the Hamakua Coast to Waimea and over the Kohala Mountains to finish at the Kohala Village on Hawi Road in Hawi.
Stage III
52.4 mile (84 km) double-marathon run from Hawi to Kawaihae and then on to Kailua-Kona. Finishing on the beach at the Old Airport State Park.
