The Best of 2011 – Portraits
What makes a good portrait? Is it the unself-conscious glimpse of the inner self by an unseen camera? Is it the formal portrait illuminated by elaborate lights blended with the twilight of the great outdoors? Always, the best of them surprise. Always, the photographer yearns to combine strong geometry and light with feeling. All of these shots were inspired by the remarkable personalities of triathlon in 2011. And all fell short of what they could be.
