Unger, Campbell win Barbados ITU Sprint

Daniel Unger of Germany, the 2007 ITU World Champion, and Canadian Lauren Campbell won the men’s and women’s elite titles at the Bridgetown ITU Sprint Triathlon Pan American Cup in Barbados.

Unger finished the half Olympic distance event in 55:32 and topped runner-up Leonardo Chacon of Costa Rica by two seconds. Manuel Huerta of the United States took the final spot on the men's podium, finishing 3rd, another two seconds back of Chacon.

Campbell finished in 1:01:13 and topped Vanessa Raw of Great Britain by 33 seconds. Canadian Kirsten Sweetland finished 3rd, another 8 seconds back of Raw.

"This win means a lot to me. After missing the entire 2010 season due to a bike accident and most of the 2011 season due serious over training, I began to doubt if I could ever return to top form," said Campbell to slowtwitch. "I've been healthy for the past few months and plugging away with my coach Joel Filliol to regain some fitness. I've got a full season ahead as I work towards Olympic qualification, so this is just the beginning of quite the journey!"
