Sexton, Jackson win Oceania Champs
Brendan Sexton and Emma Jackson used race-best runs to out pace strong elite fields and win the 2012 Devenport Oceania Championships in Tasmania Saturday.
Sexton, whose best finishes include wins at the 2010 Tuscaloosa ITU Triathlon Premium Pan American Cup and the 2011 Monterrey ITU Triathlon World Cup, outdueled New Zealand veteran Kris Gemmell on the concluding 10k run, 30:57 to 31:42, which brought the Aussie to the finish in 1:48:50 with a 41-seconds margin of victory. Aaron Royle of Australia, finished with a 32:12 run which brought him 3rd in 1:50:06, 35 seconds behind Gemmell.
Emma Jackson used a tied-for-women's-best swim of 19:40, a 3rd-best bike of 1:06:05 and a women’s race-best 35:52 run to hit the tape in 2:02:46 with a 50-seconds margin on fellow Australian and runner-up Ashleigh Gentile. Erin Densham made the podium an all-Australian affair, taking 3rd in 2:03:53 just 17 seconds behind Gentile.
The win adds further honors to the 2010 Under 23 World Champion Jackson, whose other notable results include a 5th at the 2011 ITU World Championship Series race in Yokohama, a 4th at the 2011 ITU WCS race in London and a 2nd at the ITU WCS race in Hamburg.
