Kona 2012 – race gallery 1

Pete Jacobs from Australia and Leanda Cave from Great Britain grabbed the titles at the 2012 myList Ironman World Championships, and here is our first gallery from the race day.

The Pro males were lined up and ready just before 6:30am Kona time.

German Sebastian Kienle was the first Pro in transition.

Greg Bennett and Craig Alexander had an early morning transition chat.

Luke McKenzie took charge of the bike going out to Hawi.

A slower than usual swim forced Andreas Raelert to chase hard.

Timo Bracht was most likely where he expected after the swim, but he still had to chase the swim leading bunch.

One the way back from Hawi Marino Vanhoenacker flew away from what was left of the leading bunch.

Frederik Van Lierde was in the mix all day.

it was very windy coming back from Hawi.

Sebastian Kienle had a front flat that cost him several minutes.

Pete Jacobs was where it mattered all day and never looked to be in trouble.

A 9 minute deficit out of the water forced Jordan Rapp to ride solo all day.

Amanda Stevens was first out of the water in the women's race.

Craig Alexander and Rasmus Henning ran side-by-side for a while.

The world of long time race leader Marino Vanhoenacker collapsed just before the Natural Energy Lab.

Frederik Van Lierde and Andreas Raelert on the way to third and second place.

A dominant performance on the bike allowed Caroline Steffen to start the run with a nice lead.

Leanda Cave though reeled her in late in the run to take the win and grab another World Championship title.
