Opening the Assos launch box
Assos _S7 T.Équipe bib shorts arrived at my home office in a fancy launch box and I decided to peel back the layers of that box for all of our readers. The launch box was clearly designed for elite dealers of the Assos brand, but I thought it would also be interesting for our readers to see what such a presentation actually looks like. Typically an editor would also not get such a package, and thus I was a it startled too when I picked up the sizable and heavy cardboard box. My initial thought was that I had been sent ski boots or some other hardware by mistake.
Once I opened the shipment cardboard box I came upon another box with 22.25 x 14 x 5.75 dimensions and looking at the graphics it was now clear that this was not an error.
The Team at Assos has been working hard at the new _S7 line and it is clear that they are very proud of the newest development.
Once the box was opened a nice catalog fills up the main compartment of the top layer, and a DVD is in the top right space.
The 11 x 11 color brochure labeled Spyshot S14 explains the concept of the new bib shorts in detail and so does the elaborate DVD.
Here is a snapshot from the DVD where Assos CEO Roche Maier talks about the development and technology.
The next layer of the box contains a few more items.
A mug that will find a home at a nearby bike shop.
A brochure display with a bundle of brochures.
We purposely bypassed the actuall box with the bib shorts and went straight to the bottom layer where more store display items are stored.
Here is the actual box that contains the bib shorts and this one actually measures 10 x 5.5 x 2.75 and now the light weight of the new shorts is finally apparent.
Clearly someone here has a big rear end.
The _S7 bibs themselves are covered by more details.
Now we are almost there.
The Assos _S7 T.Équipe bib shorts are finally freed and I can't wait to test them out.
Assos calls the technology where the chamois is not fully attached to the bibs Golden Gate Bridge and it allows the fabric to float between rider and saddle.
The shoulder straps are placed further apart towards the outside of the hips, and where the Assos logo is – you can actually attach your sunglasses.
So I would not have to wear these new bibs with the jersey of a different brand, I also received an Assos jersey.
Once the weather is nicer I should be styling.
MSRP for these mid level bibs is $269 and I will review them when the weather is nice enough to actually ride in them without too many other layers.
