We Noticed The Hovenring
To help traffic flow and increase safety in Noord-Brabant, Netherlands it was decided to separate cars and bicycles – and the stunning Hovenring was created. It allows cyclists to cross a major intersection many feet above the motorized traffic without having to stop and wait, but more importantly without the threat of being hit by a car.
The name Hovenring means rings 'ring of hovens' and connects the Eindhoven, Veldhoven and Meerhoven communities and this beautiful piece of architecture was opened to the public in late June of 2012.
It is truly beautiful from every angle.
Here is the drawing of how the traffic flow for cyclists was imagined.
The 230 foot tall center pylon is raised during the construction phase.
With traffic below the Hovenring that measures 236 feet in diameter.
Plenty of light below the Hovenring.
And will lit above for the cyclists.
Clearly the Dutch are more passionate about cycling than other folks, but man this is extra special.
