2015 impressions from Playitas

Sports resorts like Playitas on Fuerteventura are very popular with European triathletes who want to escape the harsh grip of the winter at home and try to get wind hardened. This concept is not common in North America, but most Americans simply do not have enough vacation time to go to a 2 week training camp, even if it were reasonably close. From most European airports it takes about 2-3 hours to fly to the Canary Islands west of the coast of Africa and Sands Beach and Club La Santa on Lanzarote also appeal to the same crowds, but for this exercise we take a glance at Playitas.

Philip Graves is currently on an Olympic mission and he is working hard to make the Brit team for Rio.

From the balcony of the main restaurant a view over most of the athletic arenas and stores in this resort.

The Olympic pool is busy most of the day, but never really seemed to be too crowded.

2013 ITU World Champion Non Stanford was working out in the pool and she looks very smooth and comfortable in the water.

Most of the Erdinger Triathlon team is currently residing at Playitas and Andreas Raelert is among them. He is looking forward to Kona starts through 2017.

Brit Dan Halksworth is also part of the Erdinger team and he was likely the fastest man in the pool.

But it is not just about triathlon, there are many other options to stay in shape, including various group exercises.

Martial arts are also offered at Playitas and clearly many folks are eager to participate.

Near the reception in the lobby there is a Hall of Fame and it features some of the famed athletes who have come here to train. The images also includes a little message from them.

The Swiss based Bigla Pro Cycling Team also had a training camp on Fuerteventura and theses female Pros and the support staff also hung out at Playitas.

This is the main restaurant at Playitas and on warmer days folks will sit outside too, but it is still a bit too cool for that.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served here and the options are endless. Folks who have specific diet restrictions also are not left out.

When in Europe, eat like the Europeans. There are several bread stations and the bread is very delicious.

Non Stanford enjoyed fruit and yoghurt for desert and was mocked by fellow Brit Philip Graves for not eating proper desert such as cake and chocolate.

The Erdinger team has their own section inside the restaurant while they are there.

Andreas Raelert looks very relaxed and will start his season in May of this year.

Asa Lundstrom was at Playitas for the launch of the new Orca wetsuits.

This outdoor workout area is used by young and old and offers a great view of the open water.

Golfers also can refine their game at Playitas and the sun really played along that day.

Non Stanford managed to stay focused despite all the media in the massive fitness studio.
