Racer videos his own crash
Billy Marrone competed in XTERRA Laguna Beach. As did I. Near the end of the bike section there was a semi-sketchy descent. There were first responders on the side of the trail.
I finished just behind Iron-legend Scott Tinley and after the race he and I went for a dip in the ocean. On the way there he asked me what I thought of the bike course. Brilliant I replied. He asked me if I thought that final descent was a little iffy.
Then I ran into Ian Murray (ianpeace on the Reader Forum) who placed 3rd overall in the short course, and asked me did I know anything about the sirens and the helicopter.
Ian followed up, to see what happened. Now we know. It was the irrepressible, indefatigable, indomitable Billy Marrone, who not only went ass-over-teakettle on that final ascent, he filmed his own crash. And the swim, and the bike ride, and the helicopter ride, and the gurney ride.
Good on you, Billy!
