This week we noticed an interesting tail light from NiteRider, a super expensive short course race in California, a bicycle first aid kit from Pedal IQ, Thomas Hellriegel in a "Hell on Orange", a clever Halloween card from Boulder Cycle Sport, and a video we all should watch closely a few times.
NiteRider Sentinel tail light
Being seen while riding a bike is important during the day and even more so at night. NiteRider has introduced a tail light called Sentinel that projects laser lanes on the ground with 40 lumen power. NiteRider worked with the FDA to make sure that they are in compliance with regulations regarding lasers, and you can have this unique rear light for just $50. You can't have too many tail lights, so get a couple of these – one for yourself and another for a friend.
A wild price hike at Alcatraz
For many folks the initial joy of securing a spot for the 2016 Escape from Alcratraz event was gone in a hurry when they learned that the cost of entry is now a staggering $750. In 2015 the same race was $400 and many do not understand why the race is now almost double the price. The massive $350 price hike has angered many triathletes who were "lucky" to get in, but the lack of response from the event organizers is even more frustrating. The Facebook comments below are a small sampling of the mood and we will follow up with a bigger story.
Pedal IQ bike first aid kit
Pedal IQ is offering a bike first aid kit called MED IQ, but it is not a patch kit, a few tools and a tire lever. Rather it is a medical emergency kit for you and your body, or the body of a friend who had the misfortune to make an unscheduled contact with the pavement or another obstacle. Hopefully most incidents won't require a ride in an ambulance, but the wait for someone to bring medical supplies can be long. So you can be ready to patch yourself or someone else up before riding home. Included in the Specialized KEG container are knuckle, butterfly, 2” x 4”, 1” x 3”, and 3”x 3” bandages, latex free vinyl gloves and wrap, gauze pads, triangular bandages, an eye patch, antibiotic ointment, alcohol swabs, and sting and bite pads. Basically locked and loaded for $39.99.
Thomas Hellriegel – a symphony in orange
Thomas Hellriegel's nick name was "Hell on Wheels" and it now seems that we should refer to to him as "Hell on Orange." The fast German who won the Ironman World championships in 1997 recently posted this picture on his Facebook page, and he is as looking lean and fast as all of his orange machines. He is still racing some, but is no longer hard core about it. But do not make the mistake of underestimating him.
Boulder Cycle Sport Halloween card
When you send out a holiday card to your customers it should be distinctive and interesting, especially on Halloween. Boulder Cycle Sport recently posted this card on their Instagram account and it is very clever indeed. Now go out and ride, and be sure that no one sucks on your wheels!
