The Arrowhead 135 Ultra
On January 25-27 hearty souls will either bike, ski or run 135 miles in Minnesota and challenge their bodies and minds in the process to finish the 2016 Arrowhead 135 Ultra event. The race is already full, and in all reality very few folks would be physically and mentally ready to jump into such a challenging event so late.
You however can get a taste of it by checking out the Among The Wild documentary teaser below, plus the full 30 minute video is available on Vimeo to rent for $3. The film follows 3 different athletes along their Arrowhead 135 journey. 1 skier, 1 cyclist and 1 runner.
The 2016 race has 108 cyclists, 54 runners and 4 skiers on the start list, and all of them had to show that they are worthy and ready. Plus to keep everyone safe, certain gear is required.
In case you consider doing the Arrowhead 135 in any of these disciplines, below are some of the requirements.
Qualifying activities required
Runners:
• Completing a prior Arrowhead 135, Tuscobia 150, or similar race.
• Finishing a 100 mile foot race or completing a multi-sport event, including a 100 mile run. A race in winter conditions improves your odds of being selected and surviving.
Cyclists:
• Completing a prior Arrowhead 135, Tuscobia 150, Susitna, or similar race.
• Finishing a 24 hour bike race, with a minimum of 100 miles completed for off-road, or 200 miles on road. A race in winter conditions improves your odds of being selected and surviving.
Skiers:
•Completing a prior Arrowhead 135, Tuscobia 150, or similar race.
• Finishing a 24 hour ski race with a minimum of 100 miles completed.
