Jan Frodeno’s finessed Canyon

German Jan Frodeno showed up at the bike check-in of the 2016 Datev Challenge Roth with a finessed Canyon Speedmax CF SLX and we have some first pics. When the 2015 Ironman World Champion rolled into transition late this afternoon however he had part of his custom cockpit hidden from curious eyes and cameras. To get ready for the Datev Challenge Roth and the reported world record attempt at this event, Jan Frodeno spent a good amount of time in the wind tunnel in Immenstaad at the Lake of Constance in Germany, and made many decisions about various equipment choices there.

At first glance this Canyon race bike does not look too different from his previous bike, but as often is the case, the devil is in the details.

The bike is super clean in part bu using the wireless SRAM E-tap group, but there is truly nothing else for the wind to see.

The cockpit of the bike has been custom made and puts Frodeno in a better position, but this is a specific custom job and not a prototype.

The Ergon arm pads, grips and extension covers are fantastic and feel great. Notice also the SRAM E-tap buttons on the base bars.

This new cockpit fits Frodeno like a glove but it does not have the adjustability of the standard cockpit.

The water bottle mount is also custom.

There is a space for a repair kit in the space in front of the seat tube.

An inspirational message on the seat stay. The Continental tires are also a special custom model with extra low rolling resistance.

As an experienced ITU athlete and Olympic champion Jan Frodeno knows how to have his Bont shoes set up perfectly for a speedy transition. His shoes sit on Speedplay pedals. Notice also the CeramicSpeed details.
