SwimRun To The World’s End
There is a very tough race in Norway called SwimRun To The World's End and thanks to ace shooter Kai-Otto Melau we can share some beautiful images from the 5th edition of this race around the beautiful islands in Oslofjorden, what some folks call the most beautiful archipelago in Norway. Athletes run across 20 islands for a total distance of 52k, plus the swimming between these islands adds up to 9k. The longest run segment however is 8k and the longest swim 1.1k.
The race starts very early, and that allows the teams to experience the spectacular sunrise.
When your tethered partner is all in, you better also be ready to go all in, as team No Goubunku 2 members Onoda Wilcock and Onoda Baynham-Hughes show here.
The Norwegian Team Olympia Sport with Tore Hopen and Per Bergsjø emerge from a swim on the way to 6th place in the men's race. It took them 7:43:42 to finish this race.
The eventually 6th placed mixed team Swimrunpodden with Annelie Ståhl and Tomas Petersson hot on the heels of the male team Xreid Løp & Svøm with Anders Aakre Jan-Sigurd Sørensen. In the end however the 2 males were almost an hour ahead with 10:12:14 versus 11:07:51.
And back in the water we go, but first making sure that everything is in place.
Team Ironingman Xtd 2 with Jørgen Johannessen and Jo Gravås emerge after another swim. They ended up 11th in the male division in 8:18:16
The Team Colting Wetsuits Norway with Simon Björnholm and Magnus Bru were in the hunt for the top spot all day but in the end these Swedes had to settle for the runner-up spot in 7:02:48.
What comes out must go back in. With all these transitions it is best to be fast and smooth.
A couple teams led by the Ironingman Team 4 of Roger Rønning
and Daniel Berenett complete another swim segment.
Not all teams swim with paddles or buoys. It really is a personal choice.
With all these swim and run segments a little cheat sheet is helpful.
Here is another team with the lead swimmer without paddles. Most folks opt to use paddles but some folks like to keep it simple.
Plus the paddles used in Swimrun are usually on the big side.
Some opted for the high road while others took the low road.
The Norwegian Sjøpylså Fangst & Fridykkarlag Sitt Swimrun Team of Arnt Eirik Landa and Jostein Langeland grabbed 5th place in 7:33:07
In hot pursuit of the 2 teams in front of them Team Swimrun Norway Rune & Are of Rune Kristian Stålstrøm and Are Hotvedt ended up in third place in a time of 7:13:07
Team Xtreme of Erik Hanstein Andersen and Lars Erik Halvorsen can finally sense the finish. The grabbed 7th place at the end, but got no big gun salute for their effort.
