Wojt, Simmonds win Luxembourg 70.3

Lukasz Wojt of Germany topped Bas Diederen of Netherlands by 2:48 and Imogen Simmonds of Switzerland dominated the women’s field at Ironman 70.3 Luxembourg.

Men

Wojt won it wire-to-wire as his 21:43 swim gave him a 1:50 advantage on Manuel Kueng of Switzerland, then his race-best 2:06:32 bike split widened his lead to 5:20 over nearest pursuer Stenn Goetstouwers of Belgium. While Wojt’s middling 1:17:06 run split surrendered 2:32 to Netherland’s Bas Diederen’s race-best 1:14:34, it was enough to get the German to the finish in 3:49:05 with a 2:48 margin of victory over Diederen and 3:38 on 3rd place finisher Goetstouwers.

This win improved on Wojt’s previous season-best 3rd place finish at Kraichgau 70.3.

Women

Imogen Simmonds won it with a women’s 2nd-best swim that left her just 2 seconds behind Anna-lena Pohl of Germany, then crushed her rivals with a 2:19:01 bike split that was 4:55 better than the next–best effort of rival Svenja Thoes of Germany, who trailed Simmonds by 8:09 at T2.

While Simmonds surrendered 53 seconds with her 3rd-best 1:23:04 run split, it was enough to finish in 4:11:30 with a 7:20 margin of victory over Thoes (women’s-best 1:22:11 run split) and 9:18 over 3rd-place finisher Alexandra Tondeur of Belgium (1:22:21 run split).

Simmonds’ victory added to her career best performances that include a win at 2017 Thailand 70.3, 2nd places at 2018 Ironman 70.3 Switzerland and 2018 Ironman 70.3 Xiamen, and 6th at the 2018 Ironman 70.3 World Championships.
