Sandrine Benz of Switzerland and Kai Dahlhaus of Germany posted the top times at the ITU Grand Final Age Group Sprint Distance World Championship in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Kai Dahlhaus of Germany took the men’s overall Sprint Distance ITU World Championship and the 20-24 age category with a time of 1:00:12, which gave him a 17 seconds margin over 20-24 runner-up Alexander Picard of Switzerland and 30 seconds ahead of 16-19 winner Dominic Coy of Great Britain.
Triathletes from Great Britain won the most gold medals (9) in age group categories in the sprint distance. British women won 6 gold – retired ITU star Michelle Dillon won 45-49, Emma Fisher won 50-54, Barbara Holmes won 60-64, Anne Hughes won 65-69, Peggy Crome won 75-79 and Judith Mackay won 80-84. U.S. competitors won four gold in the age group sprint distance categories – Robert Skaggs won 50-54, Bob Palmatier won 80-84, Wayne Fong won 85-89 and Lynda Lubelczyk won the women’s 70-74 title.
“This is a dream come true,” Skaggs told USA Triathlon media of his first race in international triathlon competition.
“My husband died about a year and a half ago, and I was trying to get back in the game,” Lubelczyk told USA Triathlon media. “So, I’m doing this for my husband, my best cheerleader. What we would usually do is I would go to the triathlon, and I would race. Then my husband, who had not done a lot of traveling, would meet me afterwards and we would go and do that part of the world.”
