Bergere, Beaugrand Win in Melilla

Leo Bergere dug himself out of a 5 seconds deficit after a 7th-best swim and a 20 seconds deficit after a 15th best bike split. His race-best 13:32 run split then brought him to the finish in 49:06 with a 10 seconds margin over fellow Frenchman and second place finisher Dorian Coninx and 11 seconds ahead of 3rd place finisher Sachar Sagiv of Israel.

Cassandre Beaugrand of France began her day in a three-way tie for the lead after the swim, fell to 14th after a mediocre bike split, then turned on the jets. Her women’s-fastest 15:08 run split brought her to the finish in 57:07 with an 18 seconds advantage over Italy’s Angelica Olmo and 20 seconds over 3rd place finisher Leonie Periault of France.
