PTO Cuts Pricing For World Tour Events

The PTO today announced a rollback of pricing for their new PTO World Tour age-group events, cutting prices by 50%. Racers who have already registered will receive a refund of the price difference over the coming days.

The price drop comes after strong feedback from the marketplace, with original prices ranging upwards to $399 for the first-year events. The PTO Athlete Board unanimously voted for the price reduction and refund policy.

PTO Chief Executive Officer Sam Renouf said that, "having spoken with our PTO Professionals, we quickly realised that although we believe PTO Tour events will soon become bucket list races on every fan’s calendar, this is not a status that we can automatically assume. Like an ambitious young athlete, we must first earn our stripes through proven results before we can be compared to the greats."

PTO events comparatively now will significantly undercut those in the North American marketplace, and include all Active.com fees. For example, the advertised price for IRONMAN 70.3 Lubbock now sits at $325, whereas advertised pricing for CLASH Endurance's speedway events ranges from $110 for a sprint and up to over $400 for a closed course 70.3.

This is the largest rollback of pricing and a program since Ranouf's time at ACTIVE Network, which included IRONMAN's ill-fated Passport program. After 24 hours of feedback for the $1,000+ "jump the line for registration" key, IRONMAN refunded and cancelled the program altogether.
