Here Come the Couples!
Let's get the particulars out of the way. I'll be up at 4am, coffee having been made, for the start of this event. That's because I live on the U.S. West Coast, and 4am my time is 7am EST, which is when this race starts and where (Florida) it takes place.
I signed up to watch it here. There is a sticky thread on our Reader Forum for pre-during-post-race talk.
Heather Jackson and Greg Bennett will do the Facebook Live play-by-play (costs $9.99). I don't know who's the network talent and who's the color commentator among those two. Sean Watkins will be there, roaming around, we'll try to get some on-course insights during the event.
We have a couple of people on the ground and we'll have coverage and results up on the front page as soon as we can get them. Pictures too.
As to the race itself, the distances are:
Partner 1: Swim .25 miles; Bike 10 miles; Run 3.1 miles
Partner 2: Swim .25 miles; Bike 10 miles; Run 3.1 miles
That seems run-oriented. Whatever. Everybody in this event can run. I may be wrong, but I don't see a note in the rules about which gender goes first, just Partner 1 and Partner 2. (In my household I would be Partner 2, regardless of relay order.)
There is a celebrity relay, for charity: Brooke Bennett, Phil Gaimon, Gwen Jorgensen. (I can count at least 4 Olympic Gold Medals earned by Team Charity.) Waterfall Bank, the sponsor, will donate $10,000 to a charity for every Couples team that beats the relay.
I will see you on our Reader Forum thread bright and early.
