Outstanding in Oceanside
Oceanside once again delivered an outstanding race, with unbelievable performances in the professional races. Here are images captured by Eric Wynn and Nick Goldston during the course of the day.
Over 2,000 age groupers eagerly awaited their opportunity to run into the Pacific Ocean.
The pro women begin their run into the water.
Holly Lawrence powers up one of climbs on course. She'd ride 2:23:50 on her way to a third place finish.
All the women were left chasing Taylor Knibb, with a bike split more than three minutes better than the next-best Paula Findlay.
Findlay made up time during the bike on her way to a 6th place finish.
Heather Jackson simply did not have the day she desired.
Neither did Daniela Ryf, who finished 10th on course but was later disqualified for speeding in the limited section.
There are few things that taste better than victory beers.
Ben Kanute found himself at the front of the race again, following a strong performance at CLASH Miami.
Alistair Brownlee was a part of the five-man bike breakaway, which also included Kanute, Rudy Von Berg, Sam Appleton, and Jackson Laundry.
Laundry is making a name for himself on the run, but Oceanside proved that he can ride with the best in the business as well.
Brownlee hit the front with a strong charge to start the run, and in the middle miles looked unbeatable.
Laundry had other ideas, in a moment that's likely to become replayed dozens of times over the coming years.
Victory.
And the aftermath of another classic moment, as Lionel Sanders and Von Berg shattered each other in a desperate sprint for second. Sanders prevailed, with Von Berg third and Brownlee fading to fourth.
