Wilde, Beaugrand Win Super League Triathlon London
Men's Race Recap
Pre-race favorite Hayden Wilde started his 2022 Super League Triathlon Championship Series campaign with a win in London – but not before he weathered a scare by a gutsy Matt Hauser.
Hauser appeared to be given an unfair penalty for a false start on the swim, which replays suggested teammate Jamie Riddle was the real culprit. Hauser sucked it up, put his head down and went on a no excuses tear. It worked and Hauser was in the lead when taking a short chute on the final run leg.
But Kiwi Wilde had more in the tank and powered past Hauser to repeat his victory from 12 months ago. Home country co-fave Alex Yee then rounded out the final spot on the men’s podium.
Triple Mix Stage 1 – Swim, Bike, Run
It all started in controversial circumstances, with an Eagle definitely diving in early but it appeared to be Riddle rather than Hauser. Despite Hauser taking the penalty, the Eagles took the short chute and prevented their rivals picking one up on the bike which was led by Emil Holm. On the run the biggest guns of all came to the fore, with Yee just outsprinting Wilde and Jonny Brownlee.
Triple Mix Stage 2 – Run, Bike Swim
After the debacle On Stage 1, there was some talk that Hauser was out of contention. Think again. On the swim Hauser took 11 seconds out of his rivals and it would be game on for the closing Stage 3.
Triple Mix Stage 3 – Bike, Swim, Run (pursuit start)
In points, there was virtually nothing between the top 3 – Yee, Wilde and Hauser – with lots of daylight back to the rest. But this time, Hauser wasn't able to rule the swim. Wilde was right beside Hauser throughout the water – and also dominated the inner line. Yee kept in touch, but a problem at T2 dropped him back and he never regained contact with Hauser and Wilde. He was particularly hurt as his team, the Rhinos, decided to give the short chute won on Stage 1 to teammate Vasco Vilaca.
While taking his short chute, Hauser briefly took the lead, but Wilde was able to overcome that in the final sprint to take victory. Yee was third followed by a sprint for 4th, with Tyler Mislawchuk of Canada nudging out Jonny Brownlee. Meanwhile Sergio Baxter Cabrera took 6th in His DLT debut.

Women's Race Results
Cassandre Beaugrand made it three big wins in the UK as she authored a dramatic victory. Winner of the Arena Games in London and WTCS Leeds, the Frenchwoman grabbed this Super League Series event by the throat and never let go.
Beaugrand led the swim at the beginning of Stage 1 but didn’t take the lead in Stage 3 until the final lap of the closing run. That was the highlight of a memorable team performance from the Scorpions, with teammate Georgia Taylor-Brown in third. Splitting the pair was American Taylor Spivey of the Rhinos, who made her move on Stage 2 and held on.
Triple Mix Stage 1 – Swim, Bike,Run
The Scorpion team mopped up the three short chutes on offer. Beaugrand took the first available in the swim as she led from teammates Emma Jeffcoat and Taylor-Brown. The dominance continued as Taylor-Brown produced a superb T2 to pip Jeanne Lehair. While no team could win more than one short chute, the Scorpions were denying the rest the opportunity.
And it was no surprise to see Taylor-Brown still in front after the run to take the opening stage.
Triple Mix Stage 2 – Run, Bike Swim
Spivey dominated the second stage late in the game. Scorpions manager Chris McCormack handed the short chute to Cathia Schar rather than Beaugrand or Taylor-Brown.
Triple Mix Stage 3 – Bike, Swim Run (pursuit start)
Spivey started first on the bike and briefly held off the rest before it turned into a four-person group, with Sophie Coldwell, Beaugrand and Taylor-Brown joining the front.
Once again a tremendous transition from Spivey saw her lead into the water and she held that lead through the swim. But all the while on the run, Beaugrand was closing and the catch came on lap two, with Spivey staying on well for an excellent second and GTB in third to round off a stunning day for the Scorpions.
