Brownlee Joins Frodeno on Sidelines for Rest of 2022

On the eve of a PTO US Open race that we projected him to win, Alistair Brownlee announced on his Instagram that he will miss the remainder of the 2022 racing season with a stress fracture in his femur.

"The annus horribilis continues. Unfortunately I’ve got a stress fracture in my femur and won’t be racing for the rest of the year. The last few months have been more than a little testing," he wrote on Instagram.

It has been a yo-yo year for Brownlee. Injuries and illnesses left him deflated at races like Oceanside 70.3 (4th) and the PTO Canadian Open (24th). Meanwhile, he also was unable to take the start at the IRONMAN World Championships in St. George and the SUB7 project event due to other maladies. Yet recent form, including a dominant performance at IRONMAN Kalmar to earn his 2022 World Championships slot, suggested that Brownlee could be a premier contender in October.

Brownlee joins Jan Frodeno (Achilles, complications from bike crash) on the sidelines as we gear up for the return of the IRONMAN World Championship to Hawaii for the first time in three years.
