Our Race Coverage Approach

As we kick off the 2023 racing season, we can't help but be amazed at how the sport has grown and how many races and events globally we have. There are new races, new race formats, and new race producers.

For over 20 years, we have stayed true to a founding principal: be authentic. That principle has been the core of what you read on the front pages of Slowtwitch, and has led to our vibrant community in our forum.

When we look at the current landscape of both media and race production, it has become easier than ever for brands to showcase their own stories without involving media outlets like ourselves. And in order to bring you, our readers, the authentic and unique coverage that you expect from us, we are going to pivot to focusing on events that we can personally experience in some form or fashion.

By moving to this model, we’re going to be able to go in deeper on the events that we choose to cover. It means for certain events we’ll be producing multiple pieces of content — whether articles, videos, or yes, our soon to launch podcast episodes — and able to tell longer form stories about them. What it won’t be is a simple race result recap that a quick scan of a race producer’s social media would have given you. It also means that we’re going to be branching out a bit beyond traditional triathlon in 2023. We’ll be looking at some gravel and running races.

This approach is similarly applicable to our entire portfolio. For product reviews, for instance, we’re working hard to provide deeper dives through video and enhanced photography. Our forthcoming podcast will also allow us to have better conversations with a variety of people — from athletes to race producers to the people that truly build our little community.

We’re excited for 2023. We hope you’re excited too. And we hope you’ll join us on the adventure of it.
