Top field for Toyota Cup round 2
The second round of the Slowtwitch live coverage of the Race to the Toyota Cup series gets underway on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30 in Austin, Texas for the Cap Tex Triathlon.
Slowtwitch will broadcast the race live (via text) just before the pro men start at 6:46 AM Central Daylight Time, until conclusion roughly 2 hours later.
The Cap Tex event is the second of seven races that comprise the 2011 Toyota Cup Series. Pros wishing to qualify for the Race to the Toyota Cup Series points championship must race 3 of the 6 series events and the US Pro Championship finale at Dallas in October. As true of all Toyota Cup Series events, Cap Tex has attracted another stellar field to the classic Austin, Texas Olympic distance race.
Sarah Haskins and Cameron Dye, who won the opening round of the Toyota Cup series at the Nautica South Beach Miami Triathlon last month, lead strong pro fields.
Haskins will be fighting last year’s Toyota Cup series points champ and super-swimmer and excellent biker Sara McLarty, former Toyota Cup series winner Becky Lavelle, two-time ITU Under 23 world championship silver medalist Jasmine Oeinck, multiple Toyota Cup event winner Rebeccah Wassner, and Nicole Kelleher, who finished second to Haskins at South Beach.
Dye, who eked out a 24-second margin of victory over Andy Potts at South Beach, faces stiff opposition from Potts, who is in top early season form after a win at Oceanside Ironman 70.3. Other favorites include three-time US Olympian Hunter Kemper, Nautica South Beach Miami third place finisher Filip Ospaly of the Czech Republic, former Toyota Cup series champ and 2008 Olympian Matt Reed, and super cyclist-triathletes Andrew Starykowicz and David Thompson.
