Caron “Dancing with the Stars”
Pro Triathlete and Slowtwitcher Jonathan Caron has been selected to participate in the upcoming season of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars". While the exact pairing is not set yet, rumor is that he will be partnering with Sheryl Crow.
Jonathan Caron is best known in triathlon circles for his fantastic 2nd place at Ironman Canada in 2007, and really has been coming on very strong in the sport. But he now seemingly has his focus set on a different type of sport.
His parents Pierre Caron and Aline Beaudoin were multiple Canadian dancing champions and introduced Jonathan and his brother Sebastian to ballet school at a very early age. It was seen as a nice balance to the rough and tough world of hockey the Caron brothers were involved in. Eventually the sons were enrolled at the famous Studio Metronome dance studio in Montreal and Jonathan and Sebastian even won a few competitions. In their late teens though both Caron brothers started to look at other activities as they felt dancing just wasn't cool enough.
"We were being teased by our friends because of the dancing and eventually I stopped competing all together," Caron said, "but I kept up with dancing as I found it to be a quite relaxing pre-race exercise." At age 17 Jonathan was introduced to the world of triathlon and devoted himself to this new passion.
"Funny thing is that I ended up doing triathlon and with all the tights and shaved legs etc it really isn't that much more masculine than ballet or dancing," said Caron "plus you make a lot less money in triathlon."
A few months ago Caron tried out for the show while in Los Angeles. While not a true professional dancer, his background and skill set were pretty much on par with many professional dancers and he was accepted into the show.
"I won't turn my back on triathlon completely, but this is a very unique opportunity for me and I want to make the most of it, plus Sheryl Crow is a babe," added Caron.
