by Herbert Krabel, October 19, 2011It is again time for our annual top 15 Ironman Hawaii features and we start this year with the top 15 female finishers during the run in Kona. The fastest run split of the day belonged to Mirinda Carfrae who clocked a course record 2:52:09.
French age grouper Nicolas Hemet went 9:03:11 in Kona and was 45th overall, but in the strong M30-34 age group that meant 8th place. But Nicolas still seems to be in a content place.
European 70.3 Champion Andreas Böcherer came to Kona to get a feel for this famous event and returned to Europe with a very fine 8th place. He had a few words with slowtwitch about his experience there.
Belgian age grouper Sam Gyde has been racing Ironman events since 2007 and went sub-9 for the first time in Florida in 2010. In Kona this year he won his age group in 8:50:09 but surprisingly that might not be his trip highlight.
Dmitry Polyansky recorded his second World Cup victory with a fine run in Tongyeong today. Jessica Harrison also pulled away early in the run to take the women’s title and her first World Cup win.
Andrew Starykowicz took the win in Anderson, SC and with it the Rev3 series title and a nice paycheck. Magali Tisseyre won the women’s race.

The 4th day of our 2011 Kona coverage is filled with images from the bike check-in. Athletes had time from noon until 5:30pm to drop of their bike, helmet and transition bags.
We are another day closer to the 2011 Ironman Hawaii and it was another busy day. The highlight of the day though clearly was the annual slowtwitch Kona gathering.
Thursday in Kona is mostly known to be about the underpants run, the Pro press conference and the E Komo Mai dinner, but it is certainly not limited to these 3 events.
Even though we are still several days away from the 2011 Ford Ironman World Championships, it appears that Kona is busier than before. Enjoy this gallery from our first day coverage.
Here in Kona we had a chance to look a bit closer at the Cannondale Slice RS of Michael Weiss. The bike is actually still a prototype but we can expect to see a very fast split on it.
