Rob Gray’s lava inspired Dimond
Rob Gray currently resides in Boulder, CO but this South African born triathlete showed up at the GoPro Ironman World Championships with a hot lava-inspired Dimond race bike. The bike below is as he raced it in Kona, except he did not have his front nutrition setup on at the time the pics were taken. You may drool now, but mostly just enjoy the pictures.
Dimond bikes are distinctive to begin with, but this hot paint scheme made Rob Gray's bike stand out. For Kona he rode Zipp 808 Firecrest Carbon clinchers with 23mm Continental GP 4000S tires and Vittoria latex tubes, but usually he rides a Zipp Super 9 carbon clincher disc in the back.
Don't burn your fingers when you touch the frame.
Rob Gray opted for the 3T Aduro setup on his Dimond, with the Di2 box in the stem and the battery hidden in the beam of the bike. Currently the bars still have the stock P5 color scheme, but we suspect before too long there will be a matching lava look.
A Garmin 510 head unit is mounted to the Aduro extension with a Barfly mount. His nutrition setup is usually an XLab Gorialla cage with an XLab Torpedo bottle.
The paint scheme inside of the fork and the chainstays is distinctive too.
The Rotor 3D cranks are 165mm long and are set up with Rotor QXL 55-44 rings. Power is measured with a German power2max S-type unit.
Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 components round out the package and the chain is IceFriction coated.
Rob Gray has TriRig OmegaX brakes on his bike front and back, as most Dimond owners do.
The Dash TT.9 saddle is very distinctive and Gray attached an Elite Pria Pave bottle cage to it.
Word has it that before too long an integrated saddle/seatpost version from Dash will be mounted here instead.
Although the brand does not have an A in the name it does sound like diamond.
