The distinctive Ventum One of Greg Close

Greg Close is a professional triathlete and coach who races on this very distinctive checkerboard Ventum One, and as it should be – he also has a matching helmet. Being stylish while doing your job is well appreciated.

When I first saw this Ventum I immediately thought about the art of Piet Mondrian, but that is not the inspiration.

"The crazy bike paint design was done by my immensely talented wife Robin, who is an interior architect, and inspired by the logo of the coaching company I own and head up, TriBy3 Performance Coaching. The logo, attached, originally had this fade from dark blue to light blue, orange to yellow, and three roads meeting as one. Robin wanted to change it up and do a solid color blocking pattern, and I said make it loud, and we ended up with checkerboard bike, helmet, and race kit and just wait until the new shoes from Rocket7 come next week!" said Greg Close.

But it is also about function here here, and this bike also has a selection of very fine parts from Zipp Speed, Shimano, CeramicSpeed, ISM etc

Greg Close is 5'11" and weighs 161 pounds, and his Ventum One is a 56cm size.

The drive train components are Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 but the cranks are 165mm long Quarq DFour.

CeramicSpeed coated titanium pulleys and a CeramicSpeed UFO chain on the Dura-Ace Di2 rear derailleur. The rear Zipp Super-9 disc is set up with a Vittoria Corsa Speed 23mm tire and a Silca latex tube.

Up front Greg Close rides a Zipp 808 NSW carbon clincher wheel also with a Vittoria Corsa Speed 23mm tire and a Silca latex tube. The front brakes are hidden inside the Ventum fork.

Up front the Ventum is set up with Profile Design Aeria Ultimate bars and Zipp Vuka Alumina Evo 110 extensions.

The arm rests are by Cee Gees and look very comfortable. Hydration comes partially via the internal bladder of the Ventum.

Greg Close rides an ISM PN3.0 saddle and the XLab Gorilla XT cage is mounted close below with a Specialized Reserve Rack.

Here is the earlier mentioned matching Louis Garneau P-09 helmet. The missing paint chip is not from a fall, but the manipulation of the ear flaps of the helmet.

"That ugly little bald spot on the sides of the helmet is thanks to that great feature on the P-09 where you can pull the ear flaps outward to help it fit on your head easier. However, custom paint the helmet and pull those flaps a few times and then you end up with no paint in that spot," said Greg Close

Here is the complete bike with the helmet.
