The super light 2016 Fuji SL
Fuji introduced a new super light road bike in mid-August and we took a look at this 10.91 pound SL 1.1 machine with SRAM, Reynolds, and EE components. The medium frame weighs 695 grams according to Fuji and it definitely felt super light, but we didn't have a scale on hand to confirm that number. We do know that the frame set is available in sizes XXS (46cm), XS (49cm), S (52cm), M (54cm), L (56cm), XL (58cm), and XXL (61cm), and it retails for $1,900. The complete bike as featured below is listed at $9,999.
The 2016 Fuji SL in this top shelf 1.1 edition has a sensible selection of parts that won't have to be replaced any time soon, or at the very least until the owner lusts for something new.
The down tube has an octagonal shape and the top tube is flattened, and the injection molded cable stops allow the user to choose Di2 or mechanical shifting.
This SL 1.1 edition featured many SRAM Red 22 components.
Fuji house brand Oval components make up the cockpit. The bars are 31.8mm carbon Oval Concepts R910SL and the stem is a 777SL model. Saddle and seat post are Ritchey Super Logic components.
The fork blades have an internal rib to improve stiffness and steering. Fuji refers to that concept as Reinforced I-Beam or RIB technology.
The EE Cycleworks EE brake was used front and back on the Fuji SL 1.1, and weighs under 200 grams per wheel.
The seatstays are ovalized and very thin, a feature Fuji also had on the Altamira model.
