2015 Sea Otter Classic day 2
Another beautiful day in Northern California brought lots of passionate cyclists to the Sea Otter Classic and here is what I noticed in and around the expo.
Jordan Rapp's Dimond was exhibited in the SRAM booth to show off the various 1x offerings and every time I came by this bike was the most crowded one.
The Oakley Jawbreaker sunglasses are the latest and greatest from the brand that is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary. The Jawbreaker model features an extended field of view, several ventilation channels, and Switchlock technology that allows lenses to be swapped easily.
The action was very hot during the pro women short track race and the Luna team was well represented in the 10 person lead bunch.
20-year old Swedish pro Jenny Rissveds from the Scott-Odlo team took the win after a strong push during the final lap.
Cadel Evans has raced here a few times, but was just a regular fan as the pro men were about to start the short track race.
Danish youngster Simon Andreassen moved to the front of this very strong field fast and in the end finished 7th.
Swiss Nino Schurter was the favorite and had bib number 1, and in the end did his number proud with a very nice win.
Rotor showed the new bottom bracket spindle based INpower power meter. Hides most of the goods inside the bottom bracket and thus looks very inconspicuous. Current Rotor crank users can thus get power with only left crank arm purchases and that starts at $779 for the 3D 30 and goes up to $839 for the 3D plus. That also know allows Rotor Flow users to run power.
We noticed this freshly painted Bell Star Pro helmet that belongs to Gee Atherton.
Felt has updated their cyclocross bike and it now has thru axles front and back. This mechanical Ultegra offering got a lot of positive comments as I wheeled it to an area where I could snap a picture.
Scott brought the new Addict CX to Sea Otter but Swiss pro Marcel Wildhaber had this camouflaged edition before. Hmm that looks somewhat familiar.
Nuun now offers Plus tablets so athletes can extend their workouts. Plus is designed to be added in pairs of two to a singular tablet of either Nuun Active or Energy. Plus is taste neutral and can thus easily be combined.
Garmin brought the new Vector2 pods to the Sea Otter Classic. The pod now features a hinged attaching point and that means the pedal will not have to be removed to mount it. The material is now a hard plastic and it also features LED lights that display setup and maintenance information.
Robert Egger of Specialized is the man behind many great ideas and he added this short aero section to his MTB bars, for days when he does longer rides by himself.
You see all kinds of interesting things at the Sea Otter Classic, and this includes this funky single fat wheel electric skateboard.
Today the pump tracks were very busy, and that wall was used frequently.
The SRAM booth converted this afternoon into a women's lounge with a specific event happening.
Storck brought this Aerfast bike to California and according to Markus Storck this bike was ground paralleled designed.
This man proudly told folks how this is actually a bicycle, despite the gas motor and 1 gallon tank.
After a long day at Sea Otter it was time for this 2.5 year old to retire for the day.
