blueseventy partnership with WTC ends
blueseventy and World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) will be ending their 17 year association, it was announced today. blueseventy was the second oldest Ironman ® licensee after Timex and was first signed as licensee in 1991.
Geoff Matthews, head of blueseventy swimming says the company is proud of its association with Ironman events and athletes who compete in those events over the last 20 years and is still committed to supporting many of the top triathletes in the world.
blueseventy changed their name from Ironman wetsuits to blueseventy three years ago and to many insiders that certainly smelled of a pending end to the WTC relationship.
"Even though most of the company’s staff were athletes who compete in Ironman distance races, and triathlon was our core business, blueseventy has always been about open water swimming," said Matthews and added "70% of the worlds surface is blue and over the next 20 years we could see the future growth of open water swimming matching that of triathlon over the last 20."
The interesting question now is, who will the World Triathlon Corporation court to take up the licensee spot now vacated by blueseventy?
