Brad Kahlefeldt checks in
Hi Everyone
Well I am back on home soil after my win in Bordeaux Grand Prix and straight down to get my hip operated on in Hobart. All went well in the Op last Friday. The surgeon is the best in Australia and many professionals travel from overseas to have the same surgery by him. I had to get the labrum stitched back to where it is suppose to be and some of the bone shaved back. All seems to be ok now. I only had one night in Hospital. I am on crutches but will be off them from tomorrow onwards. I will be back swimming in about 10days and riding not long after. I am glad I got it done as it was quite banged up in the joint and needed to be operated on ASAP. I am still in Hobart seeing the hip Physio everyday for the next few days before heading back to Canberra for more rehab.
So that brings me to the end of season 08. Sure the hip stopped me from doing what I wanted in China but that's part of being a professional athlete and hard as it is have to move on now. I don't really want to sit and think about what could have been in China but will focus on next year and performing better and better until London 2012.
The season brought me three podiums finishers from four starts in the ITU World Cup Series and 3 wins: the Gold Coast, Nyon and Bordeaux.
Next year should be exciting, the new Series will be a new experince for all athletes with the new 6 race World Championships series with all races live on TV around the world with the overall winner the World Champion (similar to Moto GP etc)
I will keep you updated on this later. In the mean time I will get back to studying my German, reading books, having Physio twice daily and well just relaxing before the training begins again!
On another note, Bill my coach and I will go seperate ways. We had a great 7 years together with 15 podiums in the World Cups and World Championships podiums. Due to his family commitments he is unable to travel to the many events that is required.
Attached is a pic from the Hobart hospital, the day after Surgery.
