Chalk another one up for Moffatt
Not to be outdone by youngster Alistair Brownlee, Emma Moffatt now has won her third Dextro Energy World Championship Series title in a row. A speedy transition and an even speedier run helped her cause.
American Hayley Piersol led all women out of the water with her 16:36 swim for the 1,500m. While that is an amazing time in itself, Piersol has gone sub 16 before. The accomplished swimmer and sister of US Olympian Aaron Piersol recently started to get involved in triathlon under the guidance of Siri Lindley.
Out on the bike, Piersol was soon caught by the main bunch driven by the British trio of Hollie Avil, Helen Jenkins and Kerry Lang. Several other contenders who had missed out on the lead group managed to get into the lead group by the time they hit the second transition through very hard efforts on the bike. Among those athletes were Nicola Spirig and Kate Allen.
Moffatt's bike-run transition was very fast and she managed to get out on the run first. Spirig and Jenkins managed to get right on her heels. The wicked pace of Moffatt though caused Spirig to get dropped relatively soon and by the halfway point of the run Jenkins suffered a similar fate. Spirig, Andrea Hewitt and Kathy Tremblay soon caught Jenkins, but these 4 were only going to battle for the runner-up spots, as Moffatt was proved to be too strong today. Moffatt won her 3rd title in as many tries andhas a massive lead in the Dextro Energy series. Spirig crossed the line in second and Hewitt grabbed third place and the runner-up spot in the series.
"I’m enjoying a great year and I hope it will continue through to the Grand Final on the Gold Coast back in Australia in September," said Moffatt.
