Corbin, Scott help CAF
Linsey Corbin with help from her sponsors donated a replica of her custom painted SCOTT Plasma 3 with SRAM, Zipp, Vision and Speedplay components for an auction in New York City, NY to benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation.
The Challenged Athletes Foundation’s New York, N.Y. gala and fundraiser will be held at the Waldorf Astoria on June 8th and is called A Celebration of Heroes, Heart and Hope. The bike up for auction is valued at well over $10,000, plus of course there will be plenty other fine items up for auction, including a coveted spot for the Ford Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
"I am excited to partner up with such a great organization and SCOTT Sports to support this great cause. I had the opportunity to ride this same custom-painted SCOTT Plasma 3 to a top-15 placing at Ironman Hawaii, a second place (course record breaking) finish at the 2010 Ironman Arizona, a win at the Pucon 70.3, and two top-10 70.3 finishes in California and New Orleans," said Corbin about her decision to work with the Challenged Athletes Foundation and this event in particular. "I hope the brand-new bike we are auctioning off will bring someone the same speed, enjoyment, great memories, albeit a little bit of blood, sweat & tears as it has brought me."
Corbin will not be in the Big Apple for the big fundraiser and gala, but musician Macy Gray, NFL receiver Amani Toomer and reigning Ironman world champion Chris McCormack will be among the many celebrities present to support this great cause.
"I chose CAF for a few reasons. The first is that it was one of the first groups of people I encountered when I started triathlon – at Wildflower in 2005. I remember being so inspired by the athletes – and I continue to be. We, as professionals, are constantly challenging our bodies and minds – but what the Challenged Athletes have to overcome is unreal. Sometimes when a race isn't going my way, its easy to want to give up, but then I remember how fortunate I am to have these opportunities. This April I spent some time with Bob Babbitt and toured the new CAF facilities – and then I just knew that it was a group I would like to support, not just with this auction, but hopefully throughout my career," added Corbin. "As far as seeing my bike on the road – I think I will be having double visions instead of visions of sugar plums."
