Dede Griesbauer crushes Ultraman Florida!

After leading everyone for the first two days, Dede Griesbauer of the U.S. closes with an overall 5th-best 8:14:12 double marathon, finishing in an astonishing 22:48:31 overall time that brought her home 2nd overall at the 7th edition of Ultraman Florida.

Overall winner Steven Keller of the U.S. overcame a 6:01 deficit to Griesbauer with a race-best 7:08:56 double marathon on the final day to finish in 21:49:16 which was 59:15 ahead of superwoman Griesbauer and 1:14:48 ahead of runner-up male Jeff Fejfar of the U.S. Phil Holdcroft of Great Britain took 3rd male and 4th overall in a time of 23:30:03

Keller’s 2020 time was the 3rd-fastest in the 7 years of Ultraman Florida, falling behind only Chris McDonald’s race-record 21:32:54 set last year and Chuck Kemeny’s 21:38:32 set in 2014. Keller’s time was also faster than the Ultraman World Championship in Kona men’s race record of 21:41:22 set in 1998 by Holger Spiegel of Germany on a much tougher course than Florida.

Griesbauer finished 3:59:14 ahead of runner-up woman Caroline Bloom of the U.S., whose time of 26:47:45 would have won the women's title of the 2015 and 2016 versions of this race. Alyson Watson of the U.S. finished 3rd woman in 27:22:25.

Griesbauer’s performance bested Steffi Steinberg’s 2017 Ultraman Florida race record by 3:53:18.

Although held on the tougher Kona course that includes over 15,000 feet of climbing on the bike legs and troublesome waves and currents on the swim, Amber Monforte’s Ultraman World Championship 2010 race record of 24:07:11 took 1:18:40 longer to complete than Griesbauer’s 2020 Ultraman Florida mark.

Griesbauer started her domination on the first day as she swam a race-best 2:28:49 split on the 6.2-mile swim, which was 14:44 faster than the next best effort by Ryan Rinear of the U.S. and 45:23 better than the next-best women’s split – 3:14:13 by Caroline Bloom.

Griesbauer’s 4:08:52 bike split was 3rd best overall and 13:45 behind Keller’s men’s-fastest 3:55:07 mark. Griesbauer’s bike split was 48:09 faster than the next-best women's mark set by Alyson Watson

After Friday, Griesbauer’s 6:37:41 time was 12:13 ahead of the leading man, Jeff Fejfar of the U.S. and 1:25:45 ahead of the second place woman, Caroline Bloom.

On the 171.4 mile bike leg on day two, Griesbauer zoomed away on the flat roads to a third-best-overall 7:56:38 split that took 10:35 longer than the top men’s mark set by Keller and was 48:53 better than the next-best women’s split set by Alyson Watson.

After two days, Griesbauer’s 14:34:19 accumulated time was 6:01 ahead of leading man Keller and was 2:35:42 ahead of her closest women’s rival, Watson.

After a 8:14:12 double marathon, the fifth-best including the men and 1:08:30 better than the next-best effort by Caroline Bloom, Griesbauer completed her record-breaking 3-day odyssey in 22:48:31.

With her competitive brilliance, Griesbauer left almost all attention that might have been directed to her age in her dust.
