Dye, Goss win Rev3 Knoxville
Cameron Dye stormed to win on the bike at the Revolution3 Triathlon in Knoxville in very cold and rainy conditions. Lauren Goss was near the front most of the day and at the front when it mattered.
With water temps in the high 50s and outside temperatures not much kinder the wetsuits were certainly welcomed by the athletes. Cam Dye led the men out of the water in 14:55 and he was followed by Eric Limkemann about 7 seconds later. Ryan Frederickson was at the front of the chase pack at just under 15:30.
Dye though immediately pulled away on the bike and recorded a race best 55:30 bike split despite fairly nasty conditions on the road. Limkemann's 58:48 was respectable and brought him back to the bike-run transition in second place. XTERRA legend Conrad Stoltz was next after a very fast 57:00 and that allowed him to be in the mix, but he had Chris Foster abut a minute behind him.
Dye had been close to the title a few times here, but this time he managed to hold on to the win with a 33:53 run and a 1:47:53 total time. Foster charged past Stoltz and Limkemann to take the runner-up spot in 1:51:16 and Caleb VanOrt's race best 32:46 run propelled him from 7th place after the bike to the final podium spot.
Radka Vodickova was first out of the water in the women's field in 16:45 and Lauren Goss was next in 16:49.
Fastest bike split among the women belonged to Magali Tisseyre and her 1:05:15 effort was 1:30 quicker than the times of Goss and Vodickova, but the very cold conditions made for some interesting bike outfits and transition times. Goss was one of many Pros who rode and ran in her swim skin to make things even more exciting she had apparently had snapped her Di2 cable early on during the ride and thus had to finish the course in one gear.
Out on the run it did not take long for Goss to pull away from Vodickova and that virtually allowed her to run to a comfortable win with a closing 36:35 effort. Vodickova held on to second place and Tisseyre barely held off a hard charging Mirinda Carfrae at the finish line. The Aussie's race best 36:30 run had brought her to within reach of Tisseyre, but it was not enough.
