Dye, Naeth win in Philadelphia
Cameron Dye pulled away on the bike and held off Andy Potts on the run to take the 2013 TriRock Philadelphia Triathlon. Angela Naeth had to chase down Sara McLarty on the run to grab the women's title.
Dye who had won the Columbia Triathlon and Rev3 Knoxville already, had a very solid swim but as we had already mentioned, it was his bike split that made the difference. Dye crossed the finish in 1:49:02 and showed again that he is indeed the force to be reckoned with at this non drafting distance. Potts who may have still had some tired legs from his Eagleman winning effort tried hard to run Dye down, but in the end had to settle for the runner-up spot 35 seconds adrift in 1:49:37. Matty Reed rounded out the podium in 1:52:53. We recently profiled fast age grouper Mike Gadzinski after his outstanding Iroman 70.3 Eagleman effort, and he managed to finish in fourth place overall here.
Sara McLarty had a monster lead out of the water and rode hard on her bike. Naeth and Jenna Parker were both chasing hard and when they reached the bike-run transition they were down by 90 seconds. Naeth reeled in McLarty and pulled away to take the win in 2:01:41. Parker also managed to run past McLarty and grabbed the runner-up spot in 2:02:22. McLarty hung on to third place and denied the hard charging Laurel Wassner that final podium spot.
