Ironman Fortaleza in 2014
It had been discussed in our forum about 2 weeks ago and today it became official that a second Ironman event will take place in Brazil, this newest one will run in Fortaleza, a beach community in Northeastern Brazil on November 9, 2014. The other Ironman event in Brazil has been around for 15 years already and takes place in Florianopolis on the Southeastern Coast almost 6 months earlier and 3,700 km further South.
Ironman expects about 1,500 starters for this inaugural event. The race offers a $75,000 Pro prize purse and 50 Kona slots for age groupers. Online registration for this newest race opens October 1, 2013 at 12pm EST.
"The number of triathletes in Brazil is growing fast and it's an honor to receive an event such as IRONMAN in Fortaleza. The city presents all requirements to not only attend but also surpass athletes' expectations," said João Salmito Filho, Fortaleza Municipal Secretary of Tourism. "We have all the requisites in terms of infrastructure to host an event of this magnitude and certainly we will provide a unique experience for athletes, family and thousands of spectators during the five-day event schedule. We believe that IRONMAN Fortaleza will bring a significant and positive economic impact to the city."
Ironman Fortaleza will feature a 1-lap swim at Iracema Beach and athletes then get on a two-lap bike course that travels along the highway passing by the cities Eusébio and Aquiraz and also Beach Park, the largest water park of Latin America. The run course then brings the athletes through the palm tree lined streets of Fortaleza along the coast.
