Kemper, Haskins in Minneapolis

Hunter Kemper took the win at the 2012 Life Time Fitness Triathlon Minneapolis with Andy Potts in second, and Bevan Docherty in third. Sarah Haskins grabbed the women's title for the fourth time with a dominating performance.

Dustin McLarty led the men out of the water in 17:30, with James Seear next in 17:49 and Cameron Dye and Hunter Kemper right on the Aussie's heels.

Dye pulled into the lead with a race best 55:29 bike effort, but he had quite a few tough challengers breathing down his neck. Most of them had ridden the bike segment in around 56:30 and now the race was on.

Kemper looked exceptionally fast on the run and his race best 31:24 run was indeed untouchable today. Kemper charged into the lead and finally grabbed the title that Matty Reed had owned for 3 years. Kemper's course record winning time of 1:47:25 was 1:22 quicker than the effort of runner-up Andy Potts and another 8 seconds faster than third placed Bevan Docherty.

Sarah Haskins started her day with a race best 18:57 swim and distanced all those who would be challengers by a nice margin. Gwen Jorgensen and Becky Lavelle lost over 30 seconds, and Jillian Petersen, Alicia Kaye and Lauren Goss well over a minute.

Haskins then cranked out a race best bike split of 1:01:26 and that added nicely to her lead. Kaye stayed in that general ballpark with a solid 1:03:05, and Petersen was in a good position too with a 1:03:20 bike split, but the 3-time champion was already well up the road once they reached the bike-run transition. Jorgensen's 1:06:47 bike effort virtually made it clear that the title would be out of reach, but outside of that anything would be possible with a speedy run.

Haskins closed out her day with a very solid run of 36:24 and took the win in 1:57:50. For Haskins this victory meant the 4th title in a row in Minneapolis and that is quite an impressive run. Jorgensen's race best 35:24 run allowed her to take the runner-up spot, 4:47 behind the champion. Petersen held on to third place with a 38:30 run.
