McCormack and Giger win TriStar111 Germany
Aussie Chris Macca McCormack grabbed the win at the 2010 TriStar111 Germany with its 1k swim, 100k bike and 10k run distances. The women's title went to Swiss Pro Michaela Giger.
Estonian Pro Priit Ailt was first out of the water but he had McCormack hot on his heels. The two of them though had a nice gap on all other pursuers.
McCormack then flew away on the bike and gained even more time on all his competitors, but Ain-Alar Juhanson. The tall Estonian cranked out the fastest bike split with a time of 2:20:38 for the 100k distance, but with his swim deficit he still arrived in T2 after the Aussie. Christian Brader was next into transition and he was now looking at having to make up a 2 minute gap.
Macca though didn't show any weakness in the run and crossed the line first to win the inaugural TriStar111 event in Germany in a time of 3:14:23. Brader also ran fast and finished in second place about 2 minutes adrift and Jürgen Stilgenbauer captured third.
"It was a hard and fantastic race and I’ll be back next year," said McCormack after the race.
Nicole Leder led the women out of the water as her husband Lothar was looking on.
Leder was soon passed on the bike by Isabelle Ferrer who had left T1 about 50 seconds behind her. A bit further back though Michaela Giger used her bike prowess and stormed to the front with a bike split that was fastest by almost 11 minutes. So despite losing 2 minutes during the 1k swim, the Swiss Pro had more then 8 minutes in the bank on second placed Ferrer as she headed out on the run. Leder was next into transition almost 15 minutes down.
Giger ran steadily and barely lost any time to the pursuing Ferrer and won the TriStar 111 race in a time of 3:42:55. Ferrer finished second and Leder held on to the final podium spot.
"This kind of course is tailored for me, as a strong cyclist," said Giger.
