Nils Frommhold and Daniela Ryf win Ironman 70.3 Switzerland

Nils Frommhold of Germany and Daniela Ryf of Switzerland won the pro titles at Ironman 70.3 Switzerland.

Frommhold combined a 3rd-best 22:37 swim, a 2nd-fastest 2:09:46 bike split and 4th-best 1:14:59 half marathon to finish in 3:50:38 with a margin of victory of 1:52 over runner-up Ruedi Wild of Switzerland and 4:06 over Swiss 3rd-place finisher Manuel Küng.

Ryf, the reigning Ironman World Champion and two-time Ironman 70.3 World Champion, won her 3rd straight Switzerland 70.3 title in dominating fashion.

Ryf opened up a 3:10 lead on a quartet of rivals with a women's-best 23:53 swim, then out-rode Olympic cyclist Emma Pooley of Great Britain 2:21:30 to 2:22:45. Ryf closed the deal with a women’s-best 1:20:37 run to finish in 4:09:54, with a 14:35 margin of victory over 2-time Powerman Zofingen winner Pooley (1:24:31 run) and 24:41 over 3rd-place finisher Regula Rohrbach of Switzerland.

Brigitte McMahon, the 2000 Olympic women’s triathlon gold medalist, finished 7th overall and won the women's 45-49 age group in a time of 4:38:44. McMahon tested positive for EPO in an out-of-competition test in 2005, claiming she did it for therapeutic reasons only. Facing a two-year ban from the sport, she retired from international competition.
