One more for Challenge in USA
Rumors have been circulating for a while now and today the Challenge Family announced a second Challenge event in the USA, a Half distance race in Rancho Cordova, California. Thus bringing the total of North American races for this brand to four.
In late August of 2012 the fast growing German event series that is based on the popular Challenge Roth race forged into North America when they announced Challenge Penticton in British Columbia, Canada, and about 10 months later Challenge St. Andrews in New Brunswick, Canada was added in July of 2013. On September 18th of 2013 added a third race in North America and the first one in the USA when Challenge Atlantic City was added to their portfolio of events. The newest one in Rancho Cordova is also a Half distance race like St. Andrews and folks can register for this event that is scheduled for October 5th, 2014 a week from now at 9am PST on Friday, January 24th on the Challenge Rancho Cordova website.
"The City of Rancho Cordova is proud to partner with the Challenge Family to host the Challenge Rancho Cordova Triathlon," said Mayor Dan Skoglund in a press release that was circulated today. "Athletes and visitors from around the world will discover all that Rancho Cordova – the Center of it All – has to offer. Our City features a mecca of recreational opportunities and places to stay making it the perfect location for this event."
The press release described the course as a 1.2 mile swim at the Nimbus Dam, a single-loop point-to-point 56 mile bike course that offers glimpses of the Sierra Nevada Mountains course with an overall elevation gain of 1200 feet and a 13.1 mile flat run on city streets and trails that start and finish in downtown Rancho Cordova.
"Our events aim to honor the spirit, values and legacy of our sport and we are excited to finally have an event in California, the home-state of triathlon," said Challenge Family CEO, Felix Walchshöfer. "We have teamed with a fantastic community and well-respected local production company to deliver an event that will be rich in athlete, family and spectator experience."
