One more for Moffatt
Aussie Emma Moffatt stormed to her third successive win in the Dextro Energy ITU Triathlon World Championship Series with a powerful performance on the wet roads of Hamburg, Germany.
American Hayley Peirsol had a fantastic 1500m swim in Hamburg's Alster and managed to gain a minute lead over her next closest pursuers. Most of the race favorites including Moffatt were swimming together in a pack a bit more than a minute adrift.
Peirsol rode hard on her bike too and tried to open up even more of an advantage, but she crashed on the wet roads and lost all hopes of a high placing. Lisa Norden and Daniela Ryf then broke away from the front group, and they were quickly joined by Dextro Energy series leader Moffatt. The three front runners slowly moved away from the other contenders and by the time they reached the bike to run transition, they had a one minute advantage.
Moffatt quickly took charge on the run and ran away from Norden and Ryf, who could not match the pace of the flying Aussie. Moffatt crossed line 54 seconds up on runner-up Norden and now has built up a solid lead in series. Ryf crossed the line in third and that is also her place overall in the Dextro Energy rankings.
Emma Snowsill meanwhile has been undergoing surgery back home in Australia to repair damage to the labrum cartilage of her hip, so she wasn't not competing in Hamburg. Snowsill though is optimistic about being back in time for the Grand Final on the Gold Coast on September 12th.
