Race Roundup 08-19-12

In this race roundup update we cover 70.3 Yeppoon, 70.3 Steelhead and the brand new Ironman Mont-Tremblant. Tim Reed, Lisa Marangon, Daniel Bretscher, Jessica Jacobs, Romain Guillaume and Jessie Donavan were among the winners today.

Ironman 70.3 Yeppoon

Australians Tim Reed and Lisa Marangon won Ironman 70.3 Yeppoon at the Capricorn Resort in Queensland Sunday.

Reed used a race-fastest 1:12:42 half marathon run to come back from a 3:47 deficit at T2 to finish in 3:49:42 with a 33-seconds margin of victory over runner-up Samuel Betten and a 5:36 advantage over 3rd-place finisher Matty White. Marangon combined a 2nd-best 25:23 swim, 2nd-best 2:24:16 bike split and a race-best 1:25:14 run to finish in 4:17:27 with a 6:54 margin of victory over runner-up Sarah Crowley and a 13:14 lead on 3rd-place Kristy Hallett.

Ironman 70.3 Steelhead

Daniel Bretscher took the win at Ironman 70.3 Steelhead in sub-4 hours and held off Mario De Elias and Zach Ruble, thanks in part to his superb 2:08:27 bike split. Jessica Jacobs grabbed the women's title with a race best run of 1:21:19 and Lesley Smith hung on to second place.

Ironman Mont-Tremblant

French Pro Romain Guillaume established a substantial lead in the inaugural Ironman Mont-Tremblant after the swim and bike and could cruise home on the run in 3:09:09 to take the title. Alejandro Santamaria from Argentina and American Mathew Russel finished in second and third respectively. Jessie Donavan held of Uli Bromme and Rachel Kiers to win the women's title at this very magnificent venue.
