Races on the Move

Free agency has apparently come to triathlon, with races moving amongst organizers as frequently as Major League Baseball players are swapping teams this off-season.

Super League Triathlon has announced a partnership with USA Triathlon that will see Super League assuming control of the Long Beach Legacy Triathlon. The event, hosted at the proposed site of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, features racing for athletes ranging from youth and junior all the way to the elite level.

Notably, Super League noted that the race will also become “one of the world’s foremost fundraising triathlons as it provides a continuation of Super League’s partnership with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA)…” CHLA has been the long-time beneficiary of the Malibu Triathlon, which is currently embroiled in a permitting dispute as to who will be running that event in 2024 and beyond.

The 2024 Legacy Triathlon will take place on July 20-21, 2024, and adds to a Super League U.S. calendar that also includes events in Chicago and New York City.

Meanwhile, Challenge is furthering its reach in North America as Espirit Montreal joins their portfolio of events.

2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the race, which takes place at the 1976 Olympic Basin and Formula1 Circuit Gilles-Villenueve. The race features four distances — initiation, sprint, Olympic, and middle distance (70.3), all with an expected flat, fast course.

It is the second race added in Quebec, and third total in North America for Challenge, in 2024. Challenge will also host events in Quebec City, Quebec and the New Jersey State Triathlon.
