Rev3 Full goes to Cunnama, Marsh
Bjorn Andersson exited the water in the Rev3tri season finale with two others in front of the rest of the field, and immediately rode to the lead. Andersson came off the bike with an 18min30sec lead on second place David Thompson, and more than 20 minutes on the rest of the field.
It looked like the race was over. But at mile-14 of the run the strong Swede started walking. James Cunnama ran through the field, splitting a 2:43:35 for an 8:21:28 time and the overall win. Forty year old Jason Shortis ran a 2:47 to finish a strong second. Keegan Williams and Zach Ruble rounded out the top 5.
In the women's field, Amy Marsh led virtually wire to wire to take the win in 9:15:40. Jessica Jacobs posted the fastest women's run, 3:03:41, to pull herself to second place. Kathleen Caulkins finished third overall, this in her first race as a pro.
Sam Warriner came fourth in her first full Ultra distance attempt. Warriner's Trek Speed Concept was broken during airline transport, and she rode her race on a Trek provided just two days before.
David Thompson and Sam Warriner were the overall Rev3 Series winners, pocketing $15,000 each for their season-long efforts, in addition to the day's prize purse.
