Sam Long, Imogen Simmonds Top 70.3 Gdynia

Sam Long overcame a 3:25 deficit after the swim with race-best bike and second-best run to finish in 3:37:55 with a 4:10 margin over Richard Varga of Slovakia and 4:28 over Fabian Reuter of Germany. Long then unleashed a dominating, race-best 1:58:08 bike split that gave him 1:52 lead over Varga, 1:57 over Jan Stratmann of Germany, 3:03 over Paul Ruttman and 4:01 over Kacper Stepniak of Poland. Long sealed the deal with a second-fastest 1:09:31 half marathon that brought him to the finish in 3:37:55 with a 4:10 margin over Varga and 4:28 over 3rd-place finisher Fabian Reuter of Germany (race-best 1:09:25 run split).

Imogen Simmonds of Switzerland won wire-to-wire at Ironman 70.3 Gdynia. Starting with a race-best 24:29 swim split which gave her a slim one and two seconds lead over Sara Svensk of Sweden and Rosie Weston of Great Britain, Simmonds took control with a women’s-best 2:15:01 bike split that gave her a 3:52 lead over Caroline Pohl of Germany and 5:10 over Svensk at T2. Simmonds then wrapped up her dominating race with a 4th-fastest 1:22:11 half marathon that brought her to the line in 4:07:38 with a 2:20 margin over Svensk (1:19:04 run) and 3:43 over 3rd-place finisher Aleksandra Jedrzejewska of Poland.
