Swan Song for IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant
In an email sent to athletes, IRONMAN today announced the discontinuation of IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant following the 2023 running of the race.
"As is the case with all destinations and our race series, we work together with our hosts and partners to determine our best path forward on a regular basis, in order to deliver the best possible events to our athletes," IRONMAN stated in the note. "Following several discussions which began last spring, the decision was taken by mutual agreement that the full-distance triathlon will therefore be discontinued after its 2023 edition."
The full distance event in Mont-Tremblant joined the IRONMAN circuit in 2012 and had proven to be a popular destination in the northeast. However, the race did not rebound following a two year pause during the COVID-19 pandemic. Only 1,066 athletes finished the race in 2022, as compared to more than 2,700 athletes in 2019.
The discontinuation follows a trend of IRONMAN reducing the number of full-distance events on offer in 2024 in North America. Long course events in Coeur d'Alene and Tulsa are also off of the 2024 slate as IRONMAN consolidates its event calendar.
