The Weekend Box Jan 12 2014
In this Weekend Box we cover Ironman 70.3 Pucon, a big announcement from Luke McKenzie and Beth Walsh, and a short movie about a chubby kid with big athletic ambitions.
Colucci and Carvallo strike in Pucón
The front group of men stayed close during the swim and the bike but when it came to the run no one was able to stay with Reinaldo Colucci. The Brazilian used a race best 1:17:21 split to pull away from Rojas and Matthews and captured the win in 3:58:20. He was the only one to go sub 4 hours, but Rojas and Matthews had fine races to be also on the podium.
Americans Dede Griesbauer and Sarah Piampiano had the best bike splits in Pucón, but Piampiano had given up too much time during the swim. As it was Valentina Carvallo was closest to Dede Griesbauer after the bike and managed to storm past the American to take the win. Piampiano’s race best run allowed her to also move past Griesbauer to capture the runner-up spot.

This short film by Corrie Chen is about a chubby kid with athletic dreams and as the title says – badminton is the sport featured. But it could have easily been swimming, cycling, running or triathlon. Enjoy.
