The Weekend Box Sep 8 2013
In this edition of The Weekend Box we look at Challenge Henley, Ironman Wisconsin and Wales, 70.3 Muskoka and Luxemburg, Triathlon de Gerardmer XL and much more of course. We also tried to get results from Malibu Tri and Rev3, but to no avail at this time.
Challenge Henley titles to Tom Lowe and Bella Bayliss
Both Stephen and Bella Bayless led their respective fields back into the bike-run transition, but while Bella had a massive 23-minute lead, her husband Stephen had Tom Lowe breathing down his neck. Out on the run Lowe steadily pulled away from Stephen Bayliss to take the men's win and Bella Bayliss grabbed the women's title on what was rumored to be her final race as a Pro.

Maik Twelsiek and Jackie Arendt rule 2013 Ironman Wisconsin
Maik Twelsiek took the second men's title in Wisconsin and that certainly must have boosted his confidence. Twelsiek's hard pace on the bike helped him drop Romain Guillaume who in the end finished fifth. Daniel Bretscher had a solid day and he finished second behind Twelsiek. Jackie Arendt took the win in the women's race ahead of Beth Shutt and Malaika Homo thanks to a strong running performance.

Lionel Sanders fabulous in Muskoka, Carfrae grabs women's crown
Lionel Sanders surprised favorite Andreas Raelert and quite a few other folks with his race best 2:20:54 bike and a quite convincing win in 4:07:50. Raelert who appeared to be off his game hung on to second place and Tom Davison who led after the bike segment rounded out the podium. In a somewhat typical fashion, Mirinda Carfrae came from behind after the bike with a race best 1:18:09 run to take the women's title in 4:29:34, just about 2 minutes up on Rachel McBride.

Belgians strike gold in Luxemburg
Axel Zeebroek swam well, had a great bike split on wet roads and then held on during the run to win the 2013 Ironman 70.3 Luxemburg. Dirk Bockel who was meant to race in his adopted country decided before the race that it was best not to start – apparently a knee issue. Sofie Goos and Susie Hignett battled hard during the run and in the end the Belgian took the title by 5-seconds.

This weekend was the 25th anniversary of the Triathlon de Gerardmer and over 4,600 athletes raced either the Olympic distance event or the XL edition which is a Half. Sylvain Sudrie held off Filip Ospaly and a host of other fast athletes to take the XL win in 4:22:15. Alexandra Louison managed the top spot in the women's XL event and prevented a podium sweep by Team TBB. As you can see by the picture below, the race is also popular with the fans.

The Underpants run is ON again
For many folks the annual underpants run is a must attend event (in addition to the Slowtwitch gathering of course) during the Ironman World Championship week in Hawaii and knowing that this popular "look at me" event raises money for local Hawaiian charities makes everyone feel warm and fuzzy. We noticed that Roch Frey, Paul Huddle and likely a few other folks have been hard at work to get ready for the 2013 edition and you can get in already with your pre event order and support at underpantsrun.org
Congrats to Kate Major and Jeff Young
Kate Major and her husband Jeff Young had a baby girl on the 29th of August at 1.51pm. Kate described the 14-15 hours of labor as "most painful thing I have ever experienced but truly worth it!" Charli May Young is the baby's name and she was 7lbs 13oz and 21inches long and healthy then and is likely past 8lbs as we speak. Congratulations.
