This Saturday: Canyon & Slowtwitch in Austin

The Canyon/Slowtwitch 360 Lab Triathlon Experience is heading to Austin on Saturday, June 1st. What’s the point here? Besides group runs and rides, clinics, pros, food, etc., test ride or get fit (or both) pursuant to getting your Canyon. This is for any Canyon: tri, road, or gravel.

This event will take place at the Austin Aquatics & Sports Academy. Join Canyon’s crew, Andrew Talansky, Slowtwitch’s crew (Dan Empfield, Ian Murray, Karen Sing). For those not in Austin, Mr. Talansky and (in a slower group one assumes) I will lead a Zwift run from the show, starting at 2:30pm Central time.

Joining is are ROKA, High Five Events, Wahoo Fitness, Life Time Fitness, Profile Design, City Limit Cycles. The schedule is below.

6:30 AM-7:30 AM: Swimmers invited to join the AASA Masters regularly scheduled workout. It’s free, but please let us know if you’d like to join in.

8:00 AM: Ian Murray bike fits begin. Every 30 minutes. Sign up FCFS.

8:15 AM-10:15 AM: Enjoy a relaxed-pace 33-mile group ride with the Austin Tri Club, and AASA coaches as we head out for a scenic roll along one of the favorite Austin Saturday Morning routes finishing back at AASA. (note: those on the ride will miss the scheduled group run.) There are turnaround options for those who want a shorter ride, with leaders to show them the way. Helmets and good attitude mandatory. If testing a Canyon on the ride, be sure to arrive early for fitting on the bike, and bring your helmet, pedals, valid ID and credit card to secure a bike. Here's the 33mi route; and the turnaround for the 12.2mi route.

9:00 AM: Those not riding are welcome to try the regularly scheduled AASA swim/tri strength workout in the gym. Limited space, please let us know if you’d like to join in.

9:00 AM-10:00 AM: Group Run: Start the day with a relaxed out-and-back 4-ish -mile run on the trails. (Note: those on the run will miss the scheduled group ride.) Shorter and longer options available.

10:30 AM-11:00 AM: Group Foam Roller/ Stretch Session. (please bring foam roller and towel/mat for the session) on the turf outside the gym.

11:30 AM-12:00 PM: Tire change/bike cleaning clinic with bike service expert James Balentine of City Limit Cycles. Tips for speedy no-drama tire changes, and see how a bit of cleaning after each ride will keep your bike running smoothly.

11:45 AM-12:15 PM: “Fit the person to the bike.” Dynamic Bike Fit with Dan Empfield, inventor of Quintana Roo Wetsuits and Triathlon Bicycles and founder of Slowtwitch.com and the Slowtwitch Fit System. He'll demonstrate a dynamic prescriptive bike fit while Ian Murray, triathlon coach and fitter to the stars in Los Angeles CA, describes steps taken to dial in stack and reach, etc to prescribe the perfect bike for the rider.

12:15 PM-12:45 PM: Open water swim clinic. Hop in the pool and learn to swim straight, sight, round the buoys, and negotiate a successful swim with several of your “closest friends” next to you. Get tips from AASA coaches and swimmers and practice your open water skills in a controlled environment. Bring swimsuit, cap, goggles, towel and fun attitude. Plus! Roka products for demo in the pool.

1:30 PM-2:15 PM: Ian Murray interviews World Tour Pro Cyclist turned Pro Triathlete Andrew Talansky about the differences between the Tour De France and Ironman, his training, and how injuries are not always from overtraining. Bring your questions!

2:30 PM-3:10 PM: Zwift run with Andrew Talansky

3:00 PM-3:30 PM: Athletes love data and the tech that goes with it, but how can you best use that information to drive your training? Head of Coaching, John Mayfield from TriDot, discusses how to use data to maximize efficiency and lowering injury risk by optimizing your training.

4:30 PM: Last raffle of the day…

Below is a short video of the most Canyon/Slowtwitch 360 Lab Triathlon Experience, and we’ll be in Chicago, July 13th, at SRAM’s headquarters so we can – as Jackson Brown sung it – get up and do it again.
